Enchanted Rock

My family and I visited Enchanted Rock here in South Texas this weekend. It’s an amazing place, this massive stone structure spans 640 acres and juts 425 feet out of the Texas dirt and brush. A smooth, rounded granite dome skirted by boulder fields, it is awe inspiring, even mystical. The Tonkawa Indians believed the spirits groaned from within the rock and that ghost fires flickered on the summit at night. It’s an object lesson on the hardiness of life…on the top of the rock, there are patches of grass, cactus even a few trees. If you have the opportunity t is certainly something to see.

A perfect Valentines…for a not so romantic guy.

I won’t lie, I probably fall short when it comes to being a romantic. It’s not that I don’t love my wife, because I do…very much. I’ve loved her since the first night I met her and she asked me if I’d like to see her spider…I thought I was “cruzin with the ladies”…but it was actually a rather large tarantula on the front seat of her car. Do I fall short of being a romantic because I may take her for granted from time to time? That’s definitely not it. Even though I’m sure I do take her for granted, she’s been the biggest blessing in my life…more than I could have ever asked for and I’m grateful to God every moment that He saw fit to bring her in to my life and make her my partner. Before we were married I thought it was great to be on my own…no one else to worry about, do what I want when I want, no one to answer to. But with her, I’ve learned two is without doubt far better than one. No, I think the reason I tend to be less than romantic is; exhausting long hours at work for both of us, our 10 year old son, school work, the horses, the dogs, the house in constant need of work, house work that never seems to end, managing finances, managing time and managing relationships. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade our life together for anything…no matter how crazy and hectic it might be. It would be nice though if we had the opportunity to share a few quiet moments…no iPhone, no Twitter, just her – that sweet smile, those glimmering eyes and me, away from the chaos. It would make it even nicer if we had a beautiful, romantic setting like Westin La Cantera…the views, the food, the wine, the hill country around us.

Time in the saddle

No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.  ~Winston Churchill

Some of my best time outdoors is spent on the back of my horse.

Standing bent and stripped at the side of the road, this tree in spite of it’s view, had a very lonesome, old feeling to it.

Sunrise in Estes Park

There’s something amazing about sunrise in the mountains of Colorado. When you start your days with beauty like this, it’s hard to have a bad day.

Welcome

Hi and welcome to my blog. I’ve created this blog to share one of my greatest passions – the outdoors. I was born and raised in Colorado so I had the fortune of fishing, hunting, riding horses, hiking and exploring the outdoors most of my life. I now live and Texas and do all I can to get in to the outdoors as often as possible.

Please take a moment to visit my photo page and friends page for a taste of the outdoors.

Thanks,

-Rob
